Journal register: large serif, rules and folios, one seal, zero motion. Replaces the typing hero, gavel cursor and constellation canvas. Headline is a placeholder for D-006; the promise is preparation and verification, not an outcome.

HeadnoteArrest under Section 498-A IPC. Police to satisfy themselves of necessity under Section 41 CrPC before arrest; Magistrate not to authorise detention mechanically. Directions issued; non-compliance to invite departmental action and contempt.
1
Our endeavour in this judgment is to ensure that police officers do not arrest the accused unnecessarily and Magistrate do not authorise detention casually and mechanically. In order to ensure what we have observed above, we give the following directions.

Arrest brings humiliation, curtails freedom and casts scars forever. The power to arrest is one of the lucrative sources of police corruption. The attitude to arrest first and then proceed with the rest is despicable. No arrest should be made only because the offence is non-bailable and cognizable.
The one place a lawyer reads is set in the serif at 17/1.55 on a raised sheet. Paragraph numbers in the gutter, verification in the margin, a struck citation for a phantom. No cards, no chips, no coloured badges.

Counsel
Client arrested yesterday under 498-A and 406 IPC, Saket. FIR annexed. Wife's family in Gurugram; no prior record. Need anticipatory bail for the brother-in-law who is named but was abroad.
Associate
I have read the FIR. Two instruments are plausible; the dominant one is an application under Section 482 BNSS before the Sessions Court, Saket, for the brother-in-law, with Arnesh Kumar directions as the spine.
Before I draft, two facts I could not find in the file:
Dates the brother-in-law was outside India (passport stamps will do).
Whether a notice under Section 35(3) BNSS was served on him.
Counsel
Abroad 3 March to 19 August 2026. No notice served.

How a matter is worked
I
Counsel states the objective.
A sentence and the file. Preceda resolves the instrument, the forum and the posture; it asks only when two remedies remain genuinely plausible.
II
The associate reads and drafts.
Three million judgments, read as one register. Every authority traced to its source and its treatment; the draft prepared with the working in the margin.
III
Nothing unverified reaches the bench.
A verified citation carries a mark. An authority the corpus cannot quote is flagged, never invented. A phantom is struck through where counsel can see it.
Terms of admission
Preceda is admitted by introduction. A member may introduce a small number of colleagues.
Introductions are granted with use; they are never sold.
A public edition for students at leading law schools follows, itself by introduction.
What a member receives
The matter workspace: research, drafting, verification, filing readiness.

Open a matter
Mobile-first, not a shrunken desktop. On a phone the document matters more than the conversation, so a matter opens on the desk: running head, the draft with paragraph numbers and inline marks (¶ verified, VERIFY), tabs across the top. Correspondence lives in a dock at the bottom that always shows the composer line and how many questions wait; pull it up and it becomes a full sheet with the letters and the questions answerable inline. The working line sits in the dock so a turn never blocks reading. The register is a list you can scan with a thumb. 44 px targets, 17 px serif, safe areas, installable as a PWA with the seal.
